The secrets of a successful life in business.

Consistency and The Lion Metaphor

The metaphor is one of the most powerful weapons we have as a business professional today. They are a consistently important way to help us understand an increasingly complex business world.

The key to winning™ with a metaphor, is to make sure that every metaphor you make from here on out has a lion in it.

Lions are powerful, hairy, and male. Three keys of power. The lions in my metaphors tend to be single-handedly devouring a water buffalo, but you’ll need to find your own voice when it comes to your usage. I would suggest you make it your own by putting your own personal twist on the convention.

Note: The goal here is to not just use this metaphor, but to use it so frequently, that people actually think you might hang out with lions on the weekends. It doesn’t matter if you really socialize with lions or not, what matters here is the perception that if they pop over to your place on a tuesday, you might be.

You tell me, do I want to give my multi-billion dollar business account to someone with the tenacity to socialize with lions for fun, or a guy who doesn’t?

There’s your answer.

  1. If hair denotes power, then why do you wax your back?

    Just wondering.

Not sure how you got that information, but it is indeed true.

So you know, I don’t wax my back for cosmetic reasons. I wax my back so the hair will grow back much thicker and fuller, creating almost a jacket of back hair.

If hair is power, I’m in first place.
